![]() Then select File > Export and save in Applications but also make sure to select File Format > Application before saving. Tell application "System Events" to tell process "System Preferences"Ĭlick checkbox 3 of tab group 1 of window 1 Open Applications > Utilities > Script Editor and paste the code from this script: tell application "System Preferences" Use this Apple Script to toggle "typing mode" if you want be sure your trackpad wont mess you up during frenetic typing sessions Karabiner Multitouch extension no longer works on newer versions of MacOS so I recommend turning of tap-to-click when typing. I recommend cutting the foil to be slightly smaller than the electrical tape. Just be careful the foil doesn't make direct contact with the trackpad itself as this will disable the trackpad. You probably could use clear or scotch tape for the top layer for a thinner profile. To insure the area of electrical tape is not trackable, use 2 layers of tape with a thin strip of aluminum foil between the layers. It may not look pretty but it gets the job done with no further hacks required! Place a 1/2 inch width strip of electrical tape across the top of the trackpad. While some of these tricks seemed to have helped, I found a very easy way to eliminate accidental thumb clicks while typing. If you need those options some of the time, you could probably make a script to quickly toggle them on and off. Try playing around with those options to see what works best for you. I code and don't use a lot of fancy trackpad features. Since I don't need any of those features I just disabled all of them. What seemed to fix it for me was to go into System Peferences > Trackpad > Point & Click and disable the following items: Look up & Data (Tap with three fingers) The only thing I could recommend trying is to install dconf-editor to see if that allows you to adjust it using the GUI.I was having similar issues after purchasing a new MBP. My guess is that there is something not working properly/hardware support issues with your particular model of touchpad. It is, however, odd that changing the option in gnome-tweaks does not yield the expected result, as that works on my laptop. The configurable options depend on the desktop environment's support for them. So it looks like you're out of luck.Īnother thing worth mentioning is that for Wayland, there is no libinput configuration file. gsettings set .mouse has accel-profile which can be adjusted unfortunately, gsettings set .touchpad only gives the following options: click-method, disable-while-typing, edge-scrolling-enabled, left-handed, middle-click-emulation, natural-scroll, send-events, speed, tap-and-drag, tap-and-drag-lock, tap-button-map, tap-to-click, two-finger-scrolling-enabled. If that doesn't work, please let me know and, if it doesn't, I'll see if I can help you with an alternative way to adjust it.ĮDIT: I tried searching the settings using the CLI but to no avail. I don't know if you've already done so, but you can download gnome-tweaks and set the pointer acceleration there, through the GUI. If I set the touchpad speed too low, the small movements require multiple swipes. I find this good enough most of the time but if I move my finger a bit too fast, the pointer flies to the edge/corner. ![]() I have set the touchpad speed slider to ~50% in Mouse & Touchpad Settings. ![]()
